How is this shoe a double-wide?

Strangest experience! This is a handsome shoe and seems well-made, but even on taking it out of the box, I couldn't believe it was supposed to be a wide-width shoe. I ordered the WW but the actual width of the shoe was a B or C: the palm of my hand was wider than the base of the shoe by a good bit! And the curve of the sole made very little sense-- not only did the widest part of my foot not sit at the widest part of the shoe-- even though the shoe was long enough to be right for my foot-- but the arch was in entirely the wrong part of the shoe. Not sure who this shoe was built for, but definitely not for me. I'm usually a 7.5D/7.5W. I ordered a 7.5WW the fit was as described above!
