i ordered this shoe for my husband as an anniversary gift . he wears johnston&murphy shoes only as he is a deacon in church. his johnston&murphy slipons was irritating his foot he injured so i ordered this shoe to surprise him and because of the reviews i read at nordstrom.com. thank you guys for your reviews you helped a housewife out. the meltons are great in black now he wants the brown ones. the fit was perfect, very comfortable, and he is a very sharp looking deacon . thank you nordstom.com ordering was easy.

Shoes
must have been that particular pair? I have been buying ONLY J & M for 35+ yrs ...my very favorites... would never have imagined . They were very uncomfortable 6 ways from sunday ... tried them twice ...after walking around house ... so painful ; had to send them back ... don't have a clue how to describe the fit and UN flexibility of the leather.
Actually dissapointed....First time ever... but really poor fit

definitely NOT a loafer...
My review is simply a caveat--if you have a high instep, these shoes may not be for you. The shoe opening is so small and the leather so stiff that I couldn't even get my foot halfway into the shoe (and they were sized accurately). If you stuck a round fence post in the shoe opening, it would probably hold it up just fine. I can't imagine they would be easy to break in even if I could get them on, but that is just speculation on my part. And in fairness, I had the same issue with the more costly Allen Edmonds dress shoes. I may just be stuck wearing loafers for the rest of my life. What a way to kill a great suit. Sigh...

Although the quality of the leather is very good the actual comfort level of the shoe itself is low for my personal comfort. I find that the heel affects the position of my feet; feeling like the bottom of my feet is resting on an edge. After several minutes my feet hurt.

Painful Label in Heel
Returned shoes because a very painful, thick, label is installed inside the shoes in both heels and irritates with every step - crazy design.
