Owen Junction Plaid Wool Sport Coat

At 77 years and, before retirement, a regular customer of Nordstrom’s, I needed a a better-than-average sports jacket for an upcoming concert at the Segerstrom Center. Needing it within a week, I considered Men’s Warehouse, low prices, but then opted to first try Nordstrom’s. My wife and I originally went to Nordstrom’s at the Spectrum Center, our closest major shopping center. I’d looked at their website which showed what appeared to be a good variety of choices for under $300...and up. Way up. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find a parking space and decided we might as well try the Aliso Viejo Nordstrom’s enroute to Men’s Warehouse. Easy parking. Arrived at the suits department, was approached by a sales clerk, only to learn that they had only a few sports jackets in my price range, and they were very lightweight at that, not at all what I would expect in a decent sports jacket. When I commented that the coats were better suited for summer wear (this was in November 2024), he said they were ”fall” coats and flatly said that the better sports jackets started around $800. Disappointed, we headed to the exit...passing through the “casual” men’s department. Lo and behold, we almost immediately found several excellent sports jacket options, selected one and the lady rep elegantly ushered us off to the fitting room for slight alteration (arm length). The “Nordstrom” service that I’d come to expect during my career years. She also fitted me with a great pair of classy jeans, also needing an alteration (leg length). So I splurged a bit and spent around $400 for both. The alterations came back the day before the concert, as promised, and I am STILL in awe of this iconic department store. The retail department store business is tougher than ever, but somehow Nordstrom seems to be adjusting to this challenging retail climate. Kudos to Nordstrom for thriving when so many other upscale store brands have not survived.

I wanted to love it but...the fit was too tight. I should have listened to myself but instead, I listened to the sales person. The fabric, quality and overall look were spot on. It was too tight around the chest and was never going to lay correctly. I returned it and Nordstrom was, as always, very accomodating.
