Poor quality/durability
After only three months of hiking and scrambling with my Konseals, the rand had been throughly perforated on both toes and separated on the sides while the leather uppers showed much deterioration. While the fit, traction and stability were acceptable, the sole factor of their poor durability would prevent me from buying them again.

Hello there, thank you for taking the time to share your experience with the Konseal Shoe. We’re sorry to hear that the durability didn’t hold up for you — especially after only a few months of hiking and scrambling. Your feedback about the rand perforation, side separation, and wear on the leather upper is incredibly valuable, and we appreciate you noting that the fit, traction, and stability worked well for you despite these issues. We’ll make sure your comments are passed along to our product team, as real‑world insights like yours help guide future improvements.

Amazing shoe, toe seam is the main issue
I want to start by saying that I love these shoes. They are amazing for approaches, climbing moderate routes inside and out, and have kept up with the use that I got them for. Many of the other reviews mention poor durability, and I did have a small hole appear in the rubber on the upper, but nothing major. My biggest issue with it is the seam that runs right along the big toe. Like I said, I love these shoes and would wear them all the time if I could, but this seam puts so much extra pressure on my toe that it is unbearable to wear for more than an hour if I'm not moving a lot, or an hour or two when I am. I initially bought these in a size 9, and they fit great with a lot of trust in the rubber and the shoe, but the toe was hurting like crazy. I got them in a 10 and can't trust the shoe as much, but have fewer issues with the seam, although it is still quite noticeable. If you have big bumps on your big toes, like I do from climbing, this will be a major issue. I think this would be a perfect approach shoe if they fixed this.

Heavy weight
Hard and uncomfortable
But durable
arcteryx.com response
Hi there, thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Konseal Shoe. We understand that the firmer platform and structured feel may come across as heavy or less cushioned, and we appreciate you highlighting how that fit your experience. The Konseal is intentionally built with a stiffer midsole and a more supportive chassis to provide stability on uneven terrain, edging performance on rock, and durability for approaches and scrambles — features that can make the shoe feel more rigid compared to everyday footwear. We’re glad to hear it’s been durable for you, and we truly appreciate you taking the time to share this feedback as it helps us continue refining our approach footwear.

Style over function
I like this shoe, but it's more stylish than practical, and very light duty - similar shoe to a converse chuck taylor - it has a heavy flat sole with nice thin canvas style upper. If you're gonna use it for anything active I'd recommend this as a great gym shoe - the sole is great for load bearing and will last quite well, but the upper will develop holes and tears with stressful outdoor use. The biggest limiting factor for trail or climbing use is the lacing system - like other canvas type shoes you can't lace this shoe very tight or it will hurt your feet and the upper will wear out quickly. Not recommened at all for hiking.

banger boots
i routeset in these. pretty great shoes, good grip for forerunning or indoor climbing. super durable and very comfortable. they can edge on small holds surprisingly well and they’re great on volumes.
approach is great as well. easy to talus hop and i feel like i have good traction everywhere. biggest downside is my shoelace comes untied sometimes.
