Great for winter
My intention was for these to be general hiking boots. They’re way too warm for that, but have made excellent winter boots/winter hiking boots. Waterproofing is great, they’re very warm, great traction— especially during a really tough Northeast winter!

Sadly these let me down and cannot recommend.
Lets start with the positives. These are the cutest hiking boots ever- asthetics are 10/10 which is rare for a hiking boot. They were so comfortable straight out the box and the laces never come untied. I like the eyelets too- they're not as bulky as others so you dont run the risk of tripping yourself.
However... there are cons. I wore these shoes on a 5 day trek through the Julian Alps in Slovenia hiking 8-11 miles a day. I ran into rain on the second day and have never been so waterlogged in my life. It was like I had stood in a lake and started to hike. They just simply are not waterproof. I had to literally squeeze the insoles to release water and it caused me to get 11(!!!!) blisters due to how wet my feet were for so long. By the last day my blistered feet were so swollen and tired that it felt like I could feel every rock beneath my foot as the soles are not very rugged and have more flexibility and foam which makes them comfortable for short hikes but not long treks. I'm guessing I am not eligible to return due to wearing them for 7 hikes in total but I cannot recommend these due to their lack of waterproofness and causing so many incredibly painful blisters that I am still dealing with.
If you do proceed with this boot and do very light hiking (6 miles and under) in dry conditions, you'll probably really enjoy them because they're cute and comfortable. Just know these are not a long trek kind of boot and will not keep you dry.

After one year with the Speed Solo Mid Waterproof
I got these boots on April 30th 2025. Mine are in the “smoke” colorway which is not currently available.
For the price- I am disappointed in the comfort of the shoes though I use them often. They are more for fashion than function
Pros:
They are stylish and cute, can be taken from the trail to the street without seeming out of place. The soles are extra sharp and grippy for uphill hiking. Over the year these shoes have held up remarkably well. The soles show almost no wear. Although some of the letters on the insole did peel off quickly, within the first few wears. But the outside looks great. they resist dirt and mud. I wear them almost every weekend, on paved walks or swamp strolls. They are durable but I don’t abuse them.
Cons:
They are “waterproof”… unless you get any water over the top of the shoe, near the tongue and laces, then you’ll have soggy feet all day. I expected “waterproof boot” to mean I’d be good up to my ankle but that’s not the case. I use them more for muddy swampy pathways but not for walking in a stream or deep puddle. This was the biggest disappointment for me.
Also these boots make my feet soooo hot. They don’t breathe due to the waterproofing and are the warmest shoes I own.
the round, thick laces come untied all the time with a typical bunny-ear tie. Personally this takes away some style points for me because I just think the double-knot is not as cute.
My biggest issue with these is the width of the sole. The bottom of the sole fans out and makes the shoe so much wider, and when walking on an uneven trail, like a multi use trail with horse tracks or tire impressions, it feels unstable. The shoe is too wide to comfortably navigate through rocky or rough terrain like that and strains the ankle.
I think these would be great for snowy conditions and cold weather but I don’t recommend these waterproof boots as the everyday hiking shoe especially if you are in a warmer climate.
I had high expectations for such a well-loved brand of hiking shoes!

Comfortable, sturdy and stylish
I bought these for a trip to Costa Rica where I hiked in muddy and damp conditions and they held up great. They were comfortable, my feet stayed dry, and they were easy to clean up. I also like that they look more stylish than your average hiking boot.

Needs some breaking in
These are not comfortable right away, but I'm hoping that the break-in period isn't too long. They are fairly stiff to begin with so I'm hoping I can tighten the laces more easily, but they feel supportive around my ankles. Nice neutral and versatile color. I ordered half a size larger to accommodate wider feet and thicker socks. On another note, the bottoms were noticeably dirty and the security tag was still on one of the shoes.

Great fit
Shoes used to have some arch support. This shoe has none. Other than that, good fit.
