How to Go Commando

The Art of Layering
The right shapewear for your holiday look, according to the guru behind Commando.
By Tessa Trudeau
By now you've probably got your holiday outfit all planned out. Slinky dresses, sheer blouses, clingy skirts sound amazing…in theory. In practice, however, they can be chilly and don't always fit how you planned. Luckily, entrepreneur Kerry O'Brien of Commando gave us the skinny on what to wear under our favorite party looks.
Before you resign yourself to wearing turtlenecks and trousers, heed her advice, which includes maybe even revealing your first layer. "It's not taboo anymore to show any of your undergarments," says O'Brien, "as long as they fit you well and they look amazing."

What's the secret to a good first layer?
It starts with underwear. You need to find an underwear that you absolutely love to wear, and it doesn't have to be a thong if you're not a thong person. However, I have heard that our thong is like the perfect starter thong for people because it feels like you're wearing nothing.
And then it goes to the cami. You know, ever since we came out with our camisoles, the first thing I do in the morning is put on a cami. And I think that this is something that everyone has started to do. I do it for comfort—it's not just a sheerness factor.

This holiday, what would you wear under…
An LBD?
I feel that hosiery is the best-kept accessory. I have a little black dress that I wear with different earrings and accessories, [and] changing your hosiery with that totally changes the look of the entire garment.
A sheer blouse and pant?
Definitely one of our camis—the Butter Cami. Or the Butter Stretchy Modal Bralette would be amazing with that. And you will feel great in it too. It's going to be so comfortable.
A dress with a plunging V-neck?
I would definitely put our Mini Cami Slip underneath that. You could also wear the Faux Leather Longline Bralette. It would look amazing.
A body-con dress?
I would wear our Two-Faced Tech Control Slip underneath there. Or the Control Bodysuit.
A slipdress?
That is where I would wear the Control Short. Oh, you know what else I would wear? The Ballet Body. So many people are wearing it with a long-sleeve Ballet Body. Then you can wear any bra you want!
