Rugs
They say that rugs really tie a room together—and you should believe them. Whether you're opting for a runner in your kitchen or bathroom, a simple 3x5 or 5x7 area rug for an outdoor patio or an 8x10 that creates a cozy space in your living room, dining room or bedroom, the goal is to find a style that resonates with you and elevates your space. The possibilities are endless, too. Think natural fabrics like jute or cowhide, a dreamy boho aesthetic, or something more traditional. Just don't forget your rug pad.
Throw Pillows
Decorative pillows are one of the simplest home décor accessories to incorporate into your space. Available in many sizes and shapes—including round, square, lumbar, oversized or a standard throw pillow size (20x20)—this affordable decorative touch can make a big statement. Choose from modern sofa pillows or a boho vibe, a euro sham style or textured faux fur. And looking for Christmas Décor Ideas? lSwap in a Christmas throw pillow for extra cheer. In addition to keeping throw pillows on your living room couch, you can also toss a few outdoor throw pillows onto your patio furniture.
Wall Art
All homes need some personality, and what better way than with some wall art? From geometric abstract canvas art that really makes you think to a framed modern painting or family photo you could look at all day, you've got plenty of options. You could even create a gallery wall in your bedroom or living room, add a small piece of bathroom art or get creative with a minimalist wood sculpture set on a shelf. A mirror, world map and farmhouse clock are some artsy alternatives you could try, as well. For outdoor wall art, opt for a piece of metal wall art.
Picture Frames
For a personal touch in your wall decor, consider framing and hanging pictures featuring happy memories or the people you love. Frames come in different finishes, such as gold, wooden, vintage, modern, oval and rustic, as well as a range of standard picture frame sizes, including 4x6, 5x7, 8x10, and 11x14. Also consider a frame set, collage or even digital picture frame. Have spare pictures lying around? Keep them safe in memento or jewelry boxes.
Accent Furniture
Complement the large pieces in your home with smaller accent furniture. For example, you could incorporate a bedroom side table on either side of your bed or a coffee table, armchair or console table in your living room. A kitchen nook is a great place for a small round table, and every front door looks more regal with an entryway table.
Lighting and Lamps
The rule of thumb for indoor lighting is to have three levels: ambient, task and accent. Ambient is the brightest and refers to the primary source of light in your room. This is typically an overhead light fixture, such as glass pendant lights or flush-mount lights with drum shades. Task lighting is the middle tier and includes soft light from floor lamps and table lamps with shades, as well as bedroom lamps on your nightstand or side table that make for great reading light. Accent lights are more decorative—think a modern or vintage chandelier, a wood tripod lamp or a mid century brass lamp with an arc shape. For some extra mood lighting, add a candle or two. You could even opt for scented candles that coordinate with your mood or the season.
Books and Games
Books and games infuse a burst of personality into your home. Not to mention, they're a great way to keep the family connected, entertained and engaged. (Of course, it's also fun to play some Solitaire on a non-game night.) You can never have too many simple games, board games, puzzles or playing cards on hand. Outdoor yard games and toys—like corn hole, pool toys and pool floaties—are also fun. For books, opt for a selection of classic novels and oversize coffee table books. When thinking about gift ideas, remember that books for gifts is always a win.
