Coco+Breezy

Twins Corianna and Brianna Dotson are crystal clear on their values. "We like to celebrate community, being unapologetic and self-expression," say the Coco and Breezy cofounders. And that's not just a brand statement, it's an approach to living and creating that the sisters have leaned into from the very beginning.
What was your first design project as sisters?
We were two years old. We made a shape of a bunny out of a blanket from watching a tutorial on Barney. Ha ha, we were always crafty. But our first official design project was in 2008. We designed and sewed a fashion line, and actually made custom glasses to go with the looks. That is where Coco and Breezy Eyewear started. Our creative process has evolved a lot over time. Breezy now handles design and product development. Coco now handles marketing and business operations.
What sparked your love for this particular accessory?
We always loved wearing a lot of accessories growing up. Collecting vintage glasses was our favorite thing to do. Growing up, we were bullied, so wearing sunglasses gave us an alter ego. This is when we found our full love for eyewear. When you think about it, eyewear is just as important as any other accessory. You can change up your personality just by switching the shape or color of your frames.

You two are also DJs and music producers. How does the vibe of your music compare with the vibe of your eyewear?
We always say that eyewear, music, real estate or any project we have is just a different medium to share the Coco and Breezy world. Our music has good energy—it's feel-good. And we believe our glasses give the same feeling when someone walks around wearing them.
Who are your heroes?
Our mother and father are our heroes. We wouldn't be who we are today if they had suppressed our self-expression as kids. Our parents nurtured us as nonconformists from a very young age.
What's one thing you wish you could tell your younger selves?
We would tell our younger selves not to worry about what people thought of us. We were always unicorns and people didn't understand us. That made us have social anxiety for years, and we used to be soooo shy. Once we figured out we were carrying that childhood past into our adult life, we strategically started working on that part of ourselves. Now we aren't shy anymore, ha ha.
